about

Spider is the first musical offering from Nottingham-based Jiminil.

Born in Belfast, Jiminil is a melting pot of tender, pastoral folk and gloomy indie-rock tinged with psychedelia, blurring the lines of these with folk-jazz sensibilities. Influence can be seen in the guitar stylings of the likes of Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, John Fahey, John Martyn; the juxtaposition of realism and abstraction of literary greats such as Joyce, Blake, Camus; also, in the ambitious songwriting/arrangement styles of Van Morrison, Tim Buckley, Joni Mitchell & Terry Callier. While collaborating with some of the finest musicians in the midlands, a dense, thicket of intricacies projects a wall of vibrant bewilderment.

Spider is a song about discovering oneself in a political and social landscape that your ignorance has been complicit in creating and the disillusionment which follows, that finds you even further alienated in a world of thieves and cunning arachnids. Throughout you can sense a mildly positive undertone; facing oneโ€™s fears and allowing reality to carry you along its meandering path.

lyrics

You take all the gold while the rambler's in the garden
You won't find them there hiding shy
Wear the jester crown while we bathe our heads in silver
But the blue gown is wearing another lie

You can run, run, you can run from me
You can run, you can run, you can run

You're the spider
You're the spider
You're the spider
You're the spider
In the right of my eye

You plant all the mould while the pilgrim haters hearken
But you won't find them shining your glass eye
Save the saviour's killer while the colour-blind still shiver
We're plump with another sore to cry

You can run, run, you can run from me
You can run, you can run, you can run

You're the spider
You're the spider
You're the spider
You're the spider
In the right of my eye
